Military Tuition Discount

Central Michigan University began its Off-Campus Programs in 1972 at military installations in Michigan, Ohio, and Hawaii. Our connection to the military has remained strong over the years. Today CMU has centers at over 20 locations throughout the United States and online learning options to serve even more military students.

To make continuing education affordable for our service men and women, Central Michigan University is dedicated to keeping our tuition rates under the current military tuition assistance cap. For most military personnel, this means no out-of-pocket tuition expenses or reimbursement for tuition paid.

Tuition Discount FAQs

Q. What is the military tuition discount?
A. The current military tuition rate is $250 per credit hour. With this discount, a 3-credit-hour class is $750. Tuition rates are subject to change.

The military tuition discount may not apply to all programs. The most up-to-date tuition information can be found at www.cel.cmich.edu/finances/tuition.html.

Q. Who is eligible?

A.

Q. What are acceptable forms of proof for military/DoD personnel and their dependents to receive the discount?

A.

Q. How do I get the discount?

A. The discounted rate will not be applied to a student account until the acceptable form of proof as described above has been placed in the student’s file. You must take or fax the appropriate proof to the local CMU center.

Q. How do I register and get my military discount?

A. Military students, except for active Army, can register in exactly the same way as any other CMU student: online or in person at the local CMU center. If you need to make a change to your schedule or register after the normal registration period, you should get in touch with your CMU center staff. They will help you make the adjustments.

All active duty Army students using tuition assistance must go through the GoArmyEd portal at www.GoArmyEd.com to register for CMU courses. For more information, go to CMU and GoArmyEd.

Q. I just got my bill and the military tuition credit isn't on it? What happened?

A. All students that register for off-campus undergraduate or graduate classes are charged the current rate. The military discount is adjusted on your account after registration; however, occasionally there is a delay. If you do not receive your adjustment on your statement, you should contact your center immediately. The center staff will communicate with accounting services for you and see that the adjustment is made.

Q: My spouse was in the military prior to us being married and has since been discharged. Am I eligible for the military tuition discount?
A:
If your spouse served in the military prior to your marriage and was discharged AND the only item of proof of that service is your spouse’s DD-214 then you would NOT be eligible to receive the military discount. Documentation provided (ie: military ID or DD-214) must have your name on it.
